Description

The aim of the summer school is to offer courses that should be accessible to all PhD students in mathematics, irrespective of their specialisation. We want to foster the exchange within the younger generation of mathematicians in Switzerland, but also the connection to the older generations, across borders of mathematical communities. We plan to have three mini-courses from different mathematical topics, each for about four to five hours, which are accompanied by exercises. The mini-course speakers are chosen for their expertise and pedagogical skill–which is important since the mini-courses should be accessible to a broad range of PhD students. The lecture program will be complemented by talks of PhD students about their research topic.

Mini-course topics:

  • Gianluca Crippa (Universität Basel): Introduction to mixing for incompressible fluids
  • Samantha Fairchild (Technical University of Eindhoven): Riemann surfaces and Algebraic curves: classical to contemporary
  • Joshua Evan Greene (Boston College): Symplectic geometry and inscription problems
